Empty Leg Operations Policy & Conditions
Let's embark on this journey towards a smarter, more efficient, and more affordable private jet experience.
Definition: What does empty leg mean in business?
Empty legs, also called ferry flights, represent a unique opportunity in the field of
private charter aviation. These flights occur when a plane must reposition itself to
make its next scheduled flight or return to its base without passengers on board.
As a result, they offer significant cost savings, with potential discounts compared to
standard private jet charters. The cost of an empty leg varies based on factors
such as the route , number of passengers, ancillaries services like PET on board,
dedicated catering etc.
Since these flights are scheduled based on the needs of the original charter client,
including the departure airport, destination, and timing, there is limited room for
customization or adjustment to accommodate the preferences of potential
passengers.
The “occasion” of empty leg can be unpredictable. In most cases, the empty leg or last-minute flights become available 24 - 72 hours before the flight or even hours before departure.
But If the original passenger changes their flight plan, the empty leg flight might be cancelled or rescheduled. This is a risk associated with booking these types of flights.
SBE does not provide any backup plan in the event of flight changes or cancellations, regardless of whether notification is provided or if they occur at the last minute. SBE bears no liability for any direct or consequential damages resulting from delays or cancellations of booked empty leg flights.
Legal and contractual compliance:
SBE ensures compliance with legal and contractual obligations inherent in empty-legged operations, including managing the complexities of mitigating liability, ensuring adequate insurance coverage and complying with regulatory frameworks.
